SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS HOUSE

Many years ago, my clients bought this little country house surrounded by a beautiful garden. Their brief was to create a wonderful family holiday home - party proof and child proof with multiple entertaining areas for adults and the many grandchildren. Easy maintenance was a priority. They wanted the interior to be unique - definitely not the predictable Hamptons look.

My experience in designing hotels and resorts over the years made it easy to create a low maintenance home. We have refurbished the existing house and added rooms and bathrooms. The original artist’s studio has been turned into a Garden Pavilion with its own kitchen and big dining table opening on to the terrace with the pizza oven and firepit - a house for all seasons!

 Two years ago we demolished the almost collapsed old garage and replaced it with a garage and laundry complex. This also made room for the gardener to create an enclosed veggie garden in the European style and it has proved to be a great success.

Then last year my clients finally got the big dining room they had been dreaming of.  We broke out the back of the house and created a Conservatory style dining room.  Their brief was to make it seem to be part of the original building.  We have been fortunate to have a wonderful gardener who happily reorganised the garden to accommodate our extensions.
