POTTS POINT APARTMENT
This quite small apartment in a high rise building has spectacular harbour views.
As this is the third apartment I had designed for the clients, I had a good idea of their lifestyle.
Originally a two bedroom apartment with small rooms, dated bathrooms and kitchen, the brief was to create two living spaces, each with media cabinetry, as well as luxury bathrooms and a gourmet kitchen.
The apartment has been transformed by completely gutting the space and reorganising the layout. However, we did not alter the general plumbing plan - but made our design work to the discipline. We turned the two bedrooms into one “bed sitting” room, integrating the various media equipment into custom made wardrobe cabinetry that lines the room.
In the grand rearrangement of the spaces we were able to create a luxurious two person bathroom as well as a guest bathroom with a hidden laundry.
The second TV is integrated into a totally mirrored wall in the sitting room. The mirror extends to the edge of the balcony, in effect wrapping the harbour around the room. By hanging artworks against the mirror the reflections are broken up .
The clients have a large art collection which looks fabulous on the black walls with a sophisticated lighting system highlighting the works. We pulled colours from the artworks for various pieces of furniture in each room.
The redefined kitchen space now houses a very sophisticated but functional area for gourmet cooking and cocktail shaking.
The balcony garden.
After several tries at “gardening” this windswept balcony I did my first “artificial bamboo garden”. Bedding beautiful quality artificial bamboo from Florabelle into “quick set concrete” topped with black riverstones is certainly the answer to windy balconies and clients who aren’t always around to tend live plants.
